Start Spreading the Banana Manor/Scott McKearn News

Scott McKearn, an industry veteran who has had a hand in a number of home décor companies, is getting into the direct-to-consumer rug business.

McKearn, whose name has been attached to brands including Bramble Furniture, Dauphine Mirror Co., Flambeau Lighting, Gilded Nola and Lucas & McKearn, among others, announced the launch of Banana Manor, which sources rugs, pillows and poufs from its partner factory in Bhadohi, India.

“COVID-19 told me loud and clear that the time is right to latch on to the e-commerce explosion in home furnishings,” McKearn explained. “My epiphany was that the elimination of layer upon layer of mark-ups and expenses, with straight from the weaver sourcing, direct to the consumer, e-commerce model was the way to go.”

To further differentiate itself in the marketplace, McKearn noted that Banana Manor is taking an idea from DTC eyewear producer Warby Parker. He said the customer can select and be sent three rug samples at a time to test the color, texture and rug type in the space to help make a decision.

While the venture has a heavy online retail component, McKearn is also targeting the trade with designer programs and private label opportunities for retailers. He said retailers need only select product or designs and provide labeling and packing information and the factory can take it from there.

“Select from any of the items on the Banana Manor site, provide us with your own designs, or we develop designs exclusive to you,” he said. “The only thing you are limited by is your imagination.”
