Soumak Rugs are the product of a historic technique that's older than traditional piled carpet weaving. The weavers work by wrapping each weft over four warps, then pulling the wefts back through first two warps, and on and on until a textile is formed. No knots are tied in the process which makes the textile that much stronger. With this technique comes great durability that will last in even the most high traffic areas. Soumak Rugs are unique in that they are reversible, one side is fine tuned and vibrant while the other has more of a rustic feel.  Which will you choose? :)

Shedding is normal and will diminish with regular vacuuming; Loose fibers are common, clip with scissors; Any creases in rugs should disappear in a few days; Keep away from excessive moisture; Blot spills immediately with sponge or cloth, don't rub; Professional cleaning recommended as needed; Rugs in direct sunlight will fade over time, rotate your rug; Indoor use only; Appropriate rug pad is highly recommended on all surfaces to prevent slipping.

This is part of a collection of handwoven soumaks that used to be wholesaled to Gumps, Pierre Deux and a couple of other upscale retailers that are no longer in business. These rugs have been sitting in storage for several years and should be vaccuumed, on both sides, before using.
